Italian Steak Sandwich

There is nothing that reminds me more of home then a good pot of homemade tomato sauce. Something about the aroma of crushed tomatoes mixed with garlic, onions, splash of chianti with Italian herbs. I could almost smell it simmering now.

One thing I like to make is sort of a cheese steak sandwich Italian style.

Italian Steak Sandwhich

This recipe takes about 25 minutes to make.

Ingredients

1 loaf of Italian bread sliced

1 Jar of roasted red peppers

1 medium onion (vidalia is a good choice)

1 lb boneless steak ( New York Strip is good or Ribeye)

Italian seasoning

Salt and Pepper

Olive oil

Tomato based pasta sauce either store bought or your own

Garlic bread spread

Swiss Cheese or Mozzarella cheese ( I prefer swiss because it gives it a certain taste when its melted)

Preheat the oven to 425. Before cooking your steak slice it very thin, cutting across the grain. Now preheat a large, nonstick pan on a medium-high heat give it a good 2-3 minutes to heat up. In the meantime season the steak with 1 tablespoon of Italian seasoning, 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1/4 teaspoon pepper. Place a tablespoon of oil in your pan, once the oil is heated place the steak in the pan and cook till brown 2-3 minutes. In another pan Sauté a thinly slice medium onion till it is translucent and add to the steak once cooked.  Add your sauce and 1 cup of thinly sliced roasted red peppers, reduce the heat to medium- low and continue to cook 3-4 more minutes staring until the sauce is hot. Remove from the heat and cover, now time to prep the bread take you garlic bread spread and speed it on one side of each slice of bread and place on a baking sheet. Place the the bread in the oven and toast for 4-5 minutes. For me I like it were its not to toasted but just enough to where the butter is melted a little soft in the center. Time to assemble your sandwich, place the steak mixture on one slice of bread and top with the cheese once you have enough sandwiches made place just the slices with the steak mixture back in the oven with the cheese just until its melted and then top with the other bread slices.

*** if you like mushrooms your can add to the steak mixture sauté
